Outside first: hand wash, clay bar and wax
A full detail starts on the outside because the outside decides how clean the inside can stay. The car gets a hand wash first, wheels and wheel wells included, so loose dirt and road film come off before anything touches the paint. Then the clay bar goes over every panel. Clay lifts the bonded grit a wash leaves behind, the rough, sandpaper feel you notice when you drag a fingertip across a bumper. Once the paint is smooth, it is ready for wax, and not before.
The trailer parked at the bay spells the job out: Full Detailing, Interior & Exterior, Clay Bar & Wax. Brandy Somm booked a wash and wax detailing, thanked Chris for fitting her into a busy schedule, and called the result awesome. Wax goes on after the clay so it sits on clean, smooth paint, and glass and wheels are finished last so no wax haze or brake dust is left behind. We do it at 14605 49th Street North, Unit 14, in Clearwater, or in your driveway.
Inside: seats, carpets, mats, glass and the dash
Inside, the order is top down. Loose trash and dust come out first, then the vacuum works the seats, carpets and mats, down into the seams, under the seats and along the door sills. Plastics, door cards and the dash are wiped by hand, vents are brushed out, and the glass is cleaned last from the inside so nothing drips onto a finished surface. Mats come out of the car so the carpet under them gets cleaned too, not just the mat on top.
Yvette Aehle found Exceptional Detailing within 10 minutes of her house and brought in her IS-500, her pride and joy. She described the result as excellent inside and out, with "no dust to be found anywhere." That is the standard we hold the cabin to. The hex lights in the bay show what a dim garage hides, so a missed corner of dash or a streak on glass gets caught before the keys go back. Call (727) 235-4379 and we will tell you what your vehicle needs.
How often does a car need a full detail?
There is no single schedule. A daily driver that sits outside in the Florida sun picks up film and bonded grit faster than a garage car, and a family car collects crumbs faster than either. The honest test is the fingertip test: if the paint still feels rough after a wash, or the cabin is back to where it started, the car is due. We will tell you plainly if a full detail is the right job or if it is too early.
A detail cleans and protects, but it does not remove swirls or scratches. If you see fine circular marks in direct light, that is paint correction, and if you want protection that outlasts wax, that is ceramic coating. Kevin Riley had Chris and Aiden complete two paint correction and ceramic coating jobs, and they came to his house with all of the equipment needed. Pricing is quoted per vehicle, because size and condition change the work.
Ale jandro came from NC to visit, and wrote that Exceptional Detailing "arrived early and left my car dealer ready." That is the finish line for a full detail: a car you could hand to a buyer. Send the year, make and model, or call the bay, and we will set a time at the shop or at your driveway with the trailer and van.
